NEGOMBO – CHILAW – YAPAHUWA – ANURADHAPURA

 

  • Fishing village : you will go to Chilaw by sea
  • Visit of Munneswaram Hindu temple
  • Visit of Panduwasnuwara Buddhist temple
  • Meet the local people
  • Yapahuwa : you will see the rock fortress where a temple was erected to house the relic of the Tooth of Buddha
  • Late afernoon : arrival in Anuradhapura

 

Dinner and night at Hotel Alakamanda (or similar).

DAY 3

ANURADHAPURA – JAFFNA

 

  • Discover the city of Anuradhapura
  • Visit of the famous Sri Maha Bodi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment
  • Once in Jaffna : visit of the “secret” temple of Murukandi Hindi temple
  • Yalpanam : discover the cultural city of Tamil people
  • Nallur temple : visit a Hindu sanctuary dedicated to the god of war and victory Lord Murugan ; Custom dictates that men can only enter bare-chested (pictures are forbidden)

DAY 4

JAFFNA

 

  • Departure for the island of Nainativu after breakfast
  • Visit of Kurikadduwan jetty
  • Boat time
  • Visit of the Nagapooshani Amman Hindu temple and the Nagadipa Buddhist temple
  • Lunch with local people
  • Afternoon at Jaffna

DAY 5

JAFFNA – SIGIRYA – HABARANA

 

  • Departure to the fishing net factory
  • Lunch in a local restaurant
  • Visit of the Lion Rock and visit the fortress at the top (World Heritage Site)

DAY 6

HABARANA -THABALE – WASGAMUWA

 

  • Morning drive to Wasgamuwa : admire the picturesque sceneries
  • Visit of the Thabale lake covered with lotus flowers
  • Discover the rice factory and its husking mills
  • Back to the hotel : free time
  • Afternoon : safari time in Wasgamuwa National park

DAY 7

WASGAMUWA – KANDY

 

  • Drive through many traditional villages on your way to Kandy
  • Discover the Temple of the Tooth
  • Traditional dancing show and fire walking

KANDY – PINNAWELA – PERADENIYA – KANDY

 

  • Departure for Pinnawela Elephant orphenage to see baby elephants as they get fed and watch the whole herd
  • Peradeniya : visit the beautiful botanical garden and the giant Java tree

DAY 9

KANDY – NUWARA ELIYA

 

  • Drive through tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya after breakfast
  • Meet the local people
  • Visit a tea factory and taste delicious teas
  • Stroll around Nuwara Eliya’s town centre and park

Dinner and night at the 3-star Heaven Seven Hotel (or similar).

DAY 10

NUWARA ELIYA – BANDARAWELA – ELLA

 

  • Reach Nanu Oya train station in a tuk-tuk
  • Walk through tea plantation
  • Visit amazing waterfalls
  • Drive to Ella

DAY 11

ELLA – BENTOTA

 

  • Free day in Ella : enjoy any leisure or discover an activity
